My family and I really enjoyed the food and the staff here was very friendly. As others have stated, the food is very good and more authentic than what you're likely used to. The owners desperately need to invest in some help however. Also as others have stated, we did wait quite a while for food and drinks but the homemade chips 'n salsas and again the friendliness of the staff made the wait tolerable. You could see the owner was literally busting his a$$ working the kitchen and the dining area. It certainly wasn't as if he was in the kitchen feet kicked up, watching TV; he was running around and was clearly overwhelmed.

Very delicious high quality Mexican food. Started with the chips, guacamole, and queso and they were fantastic. All three of us enjoyed our meals and we would definitely come back. Enjoy

I give this -star the service was bad the food was bad. we had to also pay for chips and salsa.

Good was delicious and very authentic. The waiter was very sweet, but he was the only one there so he seemed to get a little overwhelmed by the number of people in the restaurant. The chips, cheese dip, guacamole, and salsas were awesome!!! $3 for chips, $3 for cheese dip, and $3 for the guacamole is kind of expensive but totally worth it for the quality. Homemade tortillas were very good! The only thing we didn't like was we got over charged for the food, likely because the waiter was so overwhelmed... My brother was over charged by like $18!!! So just make sure your bill is right and you won't be disappointed.

Great food really good. Very authentic. Service is kind of slow but fresh food made fresh. Loved it. Steak was good the fish was amazing

Pork was way over cooked. Good flavor, but dry. Queso was bland. Enchiladas were fairly dry and nondescript as well. And to top it off, they forgot part of my order. Less than thrilled. Would not they again.

This is a really good food we made a good chose that day!! Loved it definitely We will back they just started and the food is awesome. Wish them the best luck

Food is excellent, authentic, and reasonably priced, but a pitcher of sangria that was mostly ice, and poured only 4 glasses was $36. Drink water here.

Hole in the wall place. I liked my meal. My hubby liked the empanadas. Don't order wine. Looked old. The chips, cheese dip and the server was excellent.

This restaurant is slightly hard to find in the corner of a larger than normal parking lot. Looking in from the outside it looks like a hole in the wall and it could be considered a hole in the wall. It seems to be a family owned operation. The restaurant is small but when I entered it was obvious that it was full of regulars, everyone knows the main guy working. I believe he is the owner/ server/ possibly cook. Food here is outstanding. I consider myself extremely picky about Latin food (I am Hispanic) and this place hit the spot. My party and I enjoyed the ceviche tostadas, steak tacos, fried fish entree, and carne asada. All were fantastic. Guacamole was delicious also. The margaritas were also fantastic - yelp says this place only serves beer and wine which isn't true. The service wasn't the fastest because there was only two people working the dining room. If you're in a rush don't come here. If you have some time to burn and want authentic Mexican food you'll be in for a delight. I'll be back whenever I visit myrtle beach

Good: Food was good, bordering on very good. (Love me some Chorizo tacossss.) Bad: Service was bad, and fairly slow, and fairly rude. They charge for chips (wtf?!?!). And thennnn their credit card machine was "broken" even though they have a visa / MasterCard / etc sign in their window. With all the different ways to accept credit cards these days, there's no excuse for that. Won't be going back. Ever.

Food was very good and arrived exactly as it appears in the menu. Very authentic and the owner was very pleasant and helpful.

  • Kara C.

Started out great. Sauces were wonderful. Guacamole was wonderful. Cold beer wonderful. Although everything was fresh, my husband and I both agreed we didn't care for the taste of the meats. We tried the spicy pork, chicken and beef.

A bit difficult to locate in the shopping plaza, but absolutely a find! The best Mexican cuisine we've ever had! Everything is made fresh including tortillas and sauces. Guacamole is excellent. Everyone at the table was stuffed but kept eating because of the amazing flavors. Definitely will be back later in our trip!

If not for the very slow service, I would have given a higher rating. I appreciate that it's a small family-owned/operated restaurant so they need to keep their expenses down, but their deliciously authentic Mexican food genuinely deserves better service. Sadly, I don't think we'll return.

Great authentic Mexican. Friendly, fresh and affordable. The owner takes much pride in the food and connecting with customers.

Best and most authentic Mexican food we've ever had in Myrtle Beach. Kind of hard to find, but you'll love it when you find it

Don't let the questionable decor at this restaurant fool you-- the food is incredible. If you're looking for delicious, fast, and inexpensive Mexican food this is the place. I had steak sobres and chicken tacos. They were fresh and tasty. Would absolutely recommend this place for anyone visiting north myrtle.

Awesome food. Everything I expected from a cheap mexican restaurant. Not one bad thing to say about it.

    (5)
  • Angie K.

I'll start off with a positive note. The food is delicious! The horchata is to die for and the steak tacos I ate are probably the best in the state. The chips are extra to pay for and they were quite gummy. The red salsa had my mouth on fire and the green one tasted like plants to me. The service was a bit slow, and there was a kid running around playing the same song over and over which kind of ruined the experience. Bottom line: great food, be prepared to wait, and have patience.

La Roca is a little hard to find, especially at night, it is next to Rossi's Italian restaurant. It's very "hole in the wall." Nothing fancy. It was almost a deterrent to be honest. BUT! The reviews don't lie, right? So we tried it. So glad we did. The owner (I think it was the owner) waited on us and was so, so nice. The fresh guacamole was AMAZING!!!!!!!! I had a burrito with rice and it was the best Mexican meal I've ever had. Don't let the looks fool you - give this place a try. Run, don't walk.

Based on Yelp overall rating, we decided to try this place for Cinco de Mayo. Unlike most Mexican restaurants you don't get chips free so we ordered a basket. They were fresh and warm. We were served two bowls of salsa, one green (like a verde) the other red (this one, although tomato based, was more like a hot sauce). The verde was best of the two. This restaurant also serves a small bowl of sliced pickled red onions (picked in habanero sauce) these were decent and fairly spicy. The menu had a lot of selections and we chose a bowl of guacamole to start and for dinner Texanan (sp) Fajitas (chicken, beef and shrimp). The guac and fajitas were both good. We also each had a margarita, these were okay. Unfortunately, the rest didn't go so well. There was only one server, I'm assuming the young son of the owner and he was overwhelmed, remember it was Cinco de Mayo. The food took a long time to come, I estimate an hour and we never did get the sour cream and small guacamole that comes with the fajitas. The beans and rice were also subpar for a Mexican restaurant. I can't give this place 1-star because the food was decent but the service was very slow. We are outside because our pet was with us but the inside was not that impressive. Not sure when this place opened but someone needs to give them some constructive criticism, unfortunately I don't think they review yelp.

Don't get scared off by the scarcity of the decor. This place is a gem. It's not your standard Tex-Mex. We got an authentic experience that reminded us of our travels to South America. The menu was in Spanish and footnoted with English and had so many choices beyond standard Mexican fare (though it had the standard items like fajitas, burritos, etc). We don't eat meat and were still able to have a wonderful lunch. I had a torta with lettuce, tomato, beans and avocado that was loaded with flavor from additional sauces. The bread was soft and perfect. My husband had a veggie burrito unlike any he'd had before. It was cooked on the flat top before being wrapped so it had a crispy outside. It was served with a salad and we shared a fried plantain with our lunch. The plantain was whole and sliced down the middle then fried and served with cream on top. We will certainly go back.

The food was amazing. Very authentic. We came with a large group and got to try a lot of dishes. Everything was delicious especially the guacamole and tacos. Extremely friendly service. We will definitely be back!

This is a great family restaurant and you can tell they are passionate about what they do. The food is excellent. The attributes indicate there is a full bar but there's no alcohol.

Myrtle Beach is filled with chains and large over-the-top touristy restaurants. We found this place from the good reviews on Yelp and they were true! The place looks like a dive, but don't be fooled... The food is made fresh, homemade, and it tastes great. Do yourself a favor and get the chips and guacamole. A hidden gem. We will definitely be going back when we get back to the area.

We had party of six. We all had very good food. Good service. Somewhat hard to find because it's in plaza with other stores but well worth searching for.

  • Justin H.

We took a party of 10 in and were seated fairly quickly and that was about the fastest thing that happened all night. First thing, the food was good! I'm from Southern California and I know good Mexican food, this is it! But... The service is so horrible that I wouldn't go back, especially with the choices in Myrtle Beach, it's just too slow! No air conditioning along with that! It's nice that it's family run, but there was a little kid playing video games in a closet on the way to the bathroom and the older son in charge of drinks and running food just cannot keep up with the demands. Seriously, 20 minutes before we got our first round of drinks, no alcohol either? Again, food was good and authentic with lots of choices, but it was dirty and slow, and with the child labor and lack of help, you can assume they aren't up to health code. Dine at your own risk.

Excellent authentic Mexican food in this small family run restaurant! Between us we tried tacos, burritos and quesadillas. I originally planned to share my chorizo tacos but they were so good that I finished them myself!

We ate dinner here during vacation and we decided to try La Roca out. Keep in mind per the owner they just opened mid June or so. And also don't let the location turn you away. They are in the process of adding more decorations and soon they will be getting their liquor license. My husband ordered the fried tilapia and I ordered the enchiladas with mole sauce. His fish was very good and flavorful. I wasn't a fan of the mole sauce. So I ordered 2 tacos, 1 with chorizo and 1 with carne asada. They were both so good I couldn't stop eating. We also ordered each sopes. And those were so good. We will definitely be going back there when we return to Myrtle Beach. We would probably stick to a few orders of the sopes and tacos. Their 'aguas' (juices) are fresh and home made. We got horchata and tamarindo and both were very delicious. They let us sample the other flavors and they were all good. It's nice to give these small business a chance to expand. No need to wait for hours in line at the restaurants near by. The place doesn't look like much, but the food is amazing and would definitely recommend and return.

WOW, HOLY FRIJOLES! When you're still thinking about your dinner and visit the next night, you've struck Gold. This place is a Yelpers dream. It's why the app exists. Food: I'm coming out swinging here, UNBELIEVABLE! I love Mexican food, so I come at this with a bit of personal experience. We had 16 people eat a wide range of selections. They got high marks all around. The majority said this was the best they had ever had. Made from scratch is an understatement. They were meticulous with each order. Not your average plating either, they cared about how it was presented at the table. The chips, salsa, and each item sampled were surprising to the palette. Service: these guys love what they do. They walked us through recommendations and enjoyed helping us choose wisely. Follow the Yelp suggestions and ask your servers. Environment: they serve Great food with a genuine smile. The store will scare you because it's a small spot in a strip center. It was a classic case of "I hope I didn't just lead these people to a big mistake" feeling. However, stride in with confidence and enjoy. Disclaimer: This place made me re-think my standard rating scale of Food, Service, and Environment. In the past ALL 3 had to be top notch to get a 5, this place broke my formula.

This restaurant is so authentic you'll feel like you are actually in Pueblo Mexico. I had the chicken fajitas and my husband had the house special both equally amazing. The staff/owners are so friendly and the atmosphere is laid back. This is truly a hidden gem!

Don't judge a book by its cover! It was our first trip to Myrtle Beach and we decided to try out some Mexican food. I looked on Yelp and found this restaurant. It had 4 1/2 stars I figured, how bad could it be. It is a very small place with very few tables. It has very little in the way of ambience. My very New York, Italian husband almost walked backwards out the door when we got here. He is so happy that he didn't. This restaurant is by far one of the best Mexican places that We have ever been. Having been to Mexico several times I can honestly say they would give any of those places a run for their money. The guacamole was absolutely perfect, the chips were very thick and extremely tasty. All the food is homemade! This is the best Mexican place ever!! Don't forget to try the fried ice cream for dessert. It's absolutely decadent. We are so happy that we found this jewel in Myrtle Beach.

The restaurant appears to be family owned. A small hole in the wall place with cheesy Mexican decor. The service was ok. The food came out pretty fast but it took quite a while to get the bill, which reading the previous reviews may be something to expect. The server, who appears to be a young kid (the son maybe?) was very unenthused about his job. The cook (dad?) was very friendly and seemed to do a lot of the work. The food was definitely authentically Mexican. I ordered chips and salsa, carne asada taco, and carne asada sopes. Chips and salsa were ok, and the taco and sopes were ok too. The carne asada was overcooked and crunchy. Prices were decent. Overall the place was average but I appreciate that it was a family business trying to make it. Don't know about the high reviews though. Coming from California the Mexican food is far superior than Myrtle Beach based on the undeserved great reviews that this place got. Maybe I came on a bad day?

NOT fancy. Super duper good. Fresh and authentic. The best mole I've had since Colorado. Tortillas are home made and fresh. Highly recommend.

  • Mark R.

The food was really good. Several good choices. The standard fare plus more traditional things. There were several odd things about the place that didn't sit well. The cecina, dried beef, was good on tostada. The ground beef and chicken were both good but average. The beans were bland. There were reasons to rate the place higher. But I couldn't get past the liquor charges. They charged $36 for a pitcher of margaritas. There was no price on menu. That's way out of control.

  • Statia M.

I could get all verbose and adjectivey (here she goes making up words again) but then this review would get a mile long. Since some others complained about service, the service was great. Yes, this is an authentic mom and pop Mexican restaurant. Yes, it's amazing. If you've ever been anywhere where there is a large population of Mexican people (California or Texas perhaps), then you will know this is authentic. The molé is to die for. I didn't want to leave. The owners, I'm assuming, are super nice and proud of their place. And they should be. Please don't pass this little gem by. We'll be back before we go back home.

I'm from downtown Los Angeles, California where there is authentic Mexican food everywhere. This place is the closest thing to the food I grew up eating. The carne asada tacos are so good and the service is really nice. Place isn't fancy so where comfortable clothes. Make reservations if you have a big group, this is a sit down restaurant not fast food

    (5)
  • Brandon G.

Be ready for a LONG dining experience if you choose to come here. The food is decent but the wait is absurd. The sub-par margaritas are not listed on the menu yet will cost as much as an entire entree. Don't waste your time, there plenty of other, better places to eat in the area!

    (1)
  • Marvin R.

Amazing - down home official Mexican food, the real deal - the waiter even welcomed us as "family", and were treated like we were - with respect and home cooked food. I pray the word gets out about this hidden jewel and La Roca gets the recognition and huge success they deserve. I really can't say enough about how much I enjoyed eating there.

Small, simple place with delicious food. The accompanying condiments were fresh and fantastically spicy, prices were reasonable. I would come again!

  • Jose D.

I am extremely confused by the overwhelming positive reviews this restaurant has received. First, the positive. The food is authentic Mexican, although if differs from American Mexican food, it taste like Mexican food you would get in Mexico. The owner was polite. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. The young son that served as our waiter, was clueless and on the borderline of rude and condescending. Many of the items listed on the menu were not available. The place was dead when we were there at 5:30 in the evening. Truly a disappointment. It was also very overpriced, even if it had met expectations and other reviews. Perhaps it's a hit or miss place, but for us, it was a total miss. We won't be going back.

  • Cindy A.

Loved this little hole in the wall! The chips are thick yet crispy, the three salsas that come with it are delicious. (I only tried two of the three because one was very hot, but my hubby said the hot one was his favorite.) for my meal I got the chicken fajitas; the flavor was great. The rice and beans that came with it were authentic and yummy. We also tried the queso, bean, and guacamole dips and all three were fresh and homemade. We were a party of eight and they served us well. I would go back again and again for some authentic Mexican delicious-ness!!!

Fantastic. Authentic. Delicious spicy pork tacos, as well as beef tacos el carbon (beef). Spectacular guacamole. Prepared with love. Modest strip mall location, but who cares?!Highly, highly recommended. I'm a food snob and much appreciate this great food in a non-chain atmosphere. Go.

Literally just left this place and had to brag how great it was. We're visiting from Chicago which clearly has great food and this tops any Mexican restaurant I've been to. It's small and seemed a little off at first but we love places like that. We both had enchiladas, I had the Rojas my boyfriend had mole. Another family wAs getting down on the chips that looked delicious. Our server was young but so so sweet and adorable very polite! Margaritas were amazing. Highly recommend don't judge a book by its cover DELICIOUS.

Amazing authentic Mexican food. Service was quick and friendly and the food has a wonderful fresh taste to it. Doesn't taste like all the other greasy Mexican food joints in America. Stumbled upon this place because we were planning to go to Rossi's and it's right next door. In the end I saved time, money, and the meal was great.

This is by far the BEST Mexican food I've ever eaten in my life. I'm a small town girl but I truly felt like I walked right off the streets in Mexico to grab a bite to eat. This is what you should expect when you hear of a Family owned and operated restaurant. The couple and their kids were so friendly and actually helped with explaining items on the menu too. Our waitress was a helping hand in preparing our food. I went with two other people and we all decided to get different things so we could sample a few different entrees in one visit. I got the chicken burrito, and they got the steak fajitas and taco dorados. As a starter we got the guacamole and holy cow was it to "die for". I tried all three things and I was never disappointed! It was priced well according to the freshness, authentic taste and experience. I would recommend this place to anyone asking for Mexican without question. The mom and pop places are so much better, we all know that! Not only will I be back but I'm telling everyone I know. I wish this business nothing but success, they deserve it!!!

The food might be great but we never got to that part. We sat without drinks and/or chips and salsa at our table for so long I started to wonder if a gang of Mexican hackers gave this place 4.5 stars. We left before I could chug all the margaritas. Maybe it was a bad night. Now my kids are screaming and my wife says we have to stop at McDonald's. It really is a bad night.

Its been a long time since I tasted authentic mexican food. The food at La Roca was excellent. It took a little longer to serve then the fast food mexican establishments in town, but I'll take fresh over speed any day. It's obvious the owners are trying hard to please. My table ordered a collection of food to try. The carne asada torta sandwich was huge and tasted great. Tacos, empanadas, Horchata drinks, and guacamole with chips were all great. This will be a new regular restaurant to visit. There are many items on the menu I haven't seen elsewhere in town. The place was busy with Mexican patrons or those in the know for good reason.

My husband and I came to this restaurant intentionally after searching yelp for a Mexican restaurant in the Myrtle Beach area. Once we decided to come to this place, we almost didn't make it for a few reasons. First, it took us forever to find! It is in a strip mall but kind of tucked away in a little corner area (if you go looking, it is just around the corner from Kroger....hang in there, it's worth it!). Second, once we finally found it and pulled up, we couldn't even decide if it was actually still in business. I mean, there was a banner-type sign attached above the doors, but looking in the windows, it almost looked like a closed down restaurant in disrepair. We nearly left until we spotted some people inside eating. We looked at each other and decided to give it a shot (possibly the best decision of our vacation). It was late, about 30 minutes before closing time, but the waitress was very welcoming and we sat down. I had never seen a menu like theirs before. Everything was listed in Spanish first and then English, and much of their food was unlike any other I'd ever seen at a Mexican restaurant before, even the ones I'd always considered "authentic". We chose and ordered, and our food was brought to us by a very friendly man, who we discovered was actually the owner Oscar. He was super nice, and his food was amazzzzzzzing. So yummy! So different! So fresh! Writing this review is making me wish I back there now. If you are considering going, stop considering and get in your car and just go now. Tell Oscar we said hi. The ambience leaves much to be desired but the food way more than makes up for it. Close your eyes while you eat and you'll be in Mexico anyway. So delish.

Stopped in while traveling based on yelp review. Hard to find but really fresh and delicious. Simple and well executed. Staff was friendly. Seemed like a mix of Mexican and Honduran food. The chips are freshly made and thicker than the chain restaurants but delicious. Will go back to tonight.

Awful. Service was terrible. Chips were chewy. Asked for salsa and new chips, but never received them. Queso was disgusting. We ended up just paying for our food and leaving before we received it. I would not suggest this place.

Everything is made fresh and served hot! The salsa is a little too hot for my palate but the tomatillo salsa and guacamole were fantastic! I enjoyed 3 soft tacos: spicy pork, Carne asada, and shred chicken. The flavors were outstanding! What really made the experience great was the kind service we recieved. I will definitely be back!

This place has amazing and authentic Hispanic cuisine. It is not easy to find a place that embodies the Hispanic culinary flavors, but this restaurant does just that. The food was amazing. Everything is homemade and its some of the best Mexican food I've had in a long time. The prices are good and the service is impeccable. I absolutely would recommend this to anyone looking for some good food :)

If I could add a sixth star I would do it. The interior of the restaurant is not all that attractive but their food is the best mexican food I have had. Ever. This place is the equal of a yelp top 100 food truck love in Arlington VA and has more options. I saw someone get the molacajte and was jealous until my variety of tacos and spas arrived. Be adventurous and try the beef tongue you won't be sad. This is a must stop lunch spot and is super affordable and fantastic. Staff is friendly and accommodating even to us gringos that butcher the Spanish.

I have waited three days after eating here to write the review to make sure that I give it a fair review. Here is the short version. I love that the family runs the shop and the customer service is exceptional (5 stars for customer service), the food or at least what we had was average (therefore the 3 stars) and the restaurant itself is in terrible need of refurbishment. There is a feeling of eating at a restaurant that has been condemned, and this is a 0 stars. There is potential but needs work. I hope this helps.

As you walk in, you might be tempted to turn around and go elsewhere. It is small and the decor isn't as upscale or neat as some other restaurants in the area. But the food is excellent. The service was attentive and friendly. We tried several things on the menu. The guacamole and housemade chips were fantastic. We also tried the burrito, empanadas, and huaraches pastor. YUM! It is family owned and clearly they care about serving the best, most authentic mexican food. Definitely going back!

Delicioso! We are from California so we know authentic Mexican when we taste it! Very friendly nice people and fresh food cooked to order. It may take a little longer to get your food but it is worth it. Highly recommend the Huaraches and Sopes.

Y'all, this place is delicious!!! The decor and ambiance is non-existent- get over it. The food is wonderful! This is one of the most authentic Mexican restaurants I have been too. Everything was so fresh and flavorful. I wanted to order one of everything!

Felt like Mexican and La Roca was rated highly. What a great spot for delicious food! There's nothing pretentious about the place. Located in a shopping strip, we found it using GPS. Glad we did. The food was fresh and tasty. The prices were great. And the owner, Oscar, was a delight. If you're looking for great food with value this is the place to go.

I've been back five more times. This is by far the best Mexican restaurant in Myrtle Beach. Each time I have tried something new. I haven't found a favorite yet, they have all been delicious. Tonight I tried the Sopes and Garditto with Carne Asada. Both were fantastic.

You probably would pass by this place. It looks like a hole-in-the wall. But it's the Real Deal!! Authentic Mexican food that is freshly made and so delicious! Ample portions and great service!

The food was great, but the service was not as good. The staff was friendly but they brought out chips and salsa without drinks and the red salsa was very hot and after asking for our drinks it still took them over 5 mins to come back with the drinks.

BEST Mexican in Myrtle beach. Beats all of the others shoes off of them. Having great friendly service goes a long with me as well. They make their food fresh and are great people.

Wow, one of the Top 10 best meals I've ever had. The fresh guacamole was fantastic as was the flan. The choice to write home about is the Molcajete! Tons of shrimp, beef, chicken and pork to split for two and the sauce in the boiling pot is the tastiest thing I have ever tried. I wish we had found this spot earlier in our vacation so we could come back and try some more selections!

Real Mexican food done the right way. Everything is hand made and the flavors are so savory. It's by far some of the best Mexican food we have ever day.

This place is such a find! After being thoroughly underwhelmed by the food options in Myrtle, this place was a find! We went at an off hour and were the only people in the restaurant and our server was absolutely wonderful. I ate two vegetarian tacos and one veggie sope - THEY WERE SO GOOD. And the salsas that come with are awesome. And homemade tortillas! This place is seriously awesome. Go here now.

Excellent authentic Mexican food. A little Mom & Pop kind of place, small, not much for decor. But very friendly, and the food is terrific! They could use more staff--got a bit slow when they got busy. They can get a bit heavy-handed with cilantro (we asked for "a little" and they gave us a pretty large amount) so unless you really like cilantro, ask for none. Overall, we loved it, and plan to go back whenever we're in town.

The food is great-authentic, homemade, and fresh. We would definitely eat there again. We ate at an odd time (3:30) so we were the only ones there but we had great service. The atmosphere is casual and authentic as well. :-)

Authentic food, but a little pricey. My fellow traveler and I got the same dish, basically a warm tortilla with green sauce, lettuce, avocado, and some of the best shredded chicken I've ever had. We also ordered a side of guacamole -thinking it came with chips, But they were charged separately. Really good quality though, very fresh. The chips were even home-made.

I would consider myself a Mexican food connoisseur and I can honestly say this is the best Mexican restaurant I have ever been. The food is authentic and the family that owns/run the restaurant are amazing! They seat you, serve you, and cook your food to order! The guacamole was to die for, definitely homemade! They don't serve alcohol, but they did just open so that could be in the future! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for an awesome, authentic, casual Mexican restaurant. I can never begin to put into words how EXCELLENT La Roca was!!

So glad we tried this place! Everything was homemade and delicious right down to the chips! We will definitely make this a family tradition every time we go to Myrtle Beach! Amazing food and awesome service!

I have tried just three things here, the fish tacos, sweet plantains, and fresca con crema. The first two were out of the world. Home made, authentic, fresh and to die for. I felt like I was eating at a Mexican family's home. The strawberries and cream were awful. They used whipped cream from a can! If you have had the real deal you know what an outrage that is. But the owners are friendly and it is a true hole in the wall gem. Absolutely no ambiance, but if you aren't looking for any, you won't be disappointed. I will go back, if I'm ever in the area again.

Authentic Mexican food and very friendly staff! This was close to our hotel and we were lucky to find it! The food was very fresh and cooked to order. The owner was very nice and loves it if you try to speak Spanish!

Brand New Mexican place right where we needed one. Looks like authentic food. Definitely authentic people. Good little spot around corner from Kroger in the Galleria shopping center. Didn't try the food yet, just stopped by, but there were some people eating in there & it looked really good. They're still putting the finishing touches on the walls

This restaurant just opened--28 days ago said Oscar--the proprietor who greeted us at the door with his son and wife. They made us a delicious meal: cool horchata and hot fresh chips with the best guacamole I've had in a while. The chicken mole enchiladas were lovely, although I could take more spice. I got it from the tortas with chiviche--a tour de force of acid and crunch, sweetness and texture. And whoo! Some fresh peppers. Just perfect. Listen--I'm a food snob from New York, with low expectations when I travel, and this place is not to be missed. Be patient with them while they figure out how to run the place. You want a world in which a sweet, nice family makes you homemade food that's this delicious. Tip them well, because they earned it.

Delicious!! Authentic Mexican food freshly prepared with warmth and charm! I was treated like royalty! Unfortunately I wasn't too hungry and felt wonderful after enjoying the taco salad with shredded chicken! Can't wait to try the flan ( for later)! I would highly recommend this over any chain in town! Support local businesses!

Excellent food, excellent prices and excellent service. Very authentic and even the tortillas are home made. Not a fancy place but comfortable and the foods delicious. Can't wait to go back

Good food and portions, lots of meat, and decent prices. Just be careful.... if you think the "spicy" at the big chains is actually spicy, then don't order spicy here, as it's a notch up. I really am no expert on what authentic Mexican food is, but I think this is, bc it tastes nothing like the texmex places. It's much better. Good service too. Definitely worth trying if you want something different than what you're used to. You can tell the effort they put into the food here.

This place is the real deal for authentic Mexican food. Stopped for a late lunch with wife, son n his girlfriend. The decor is nothing special however when I walked through the door it reminded me of my grandmother Mendez's kitchen in Kyle, Texas. Being Hispanic and knowing the difference will bring me back to La Roca should we vacation in Myrtle Beach again. Highly recommend.

This place is no joke. It's as authentic as anywhere in Latin America. If you're looking for unlimited chips and salsa don't look here. By far the best "Mexican" food in Myrtle Beach!

Best authentic Mexican ever. Ignore the aesthetics and be patient with the service, it's made fresh and well worth the wait.

I can't agree with all the other positive reviews more. This is a traditional Mexican restaurant, not Tex Mex. I go out of my way to try different Mexican restaurants all the time and this is by far the best Mexican food I have ever eaten. I am now considering moving down to myrtle beach permanently just so I can enjoy this awesome food. I will definitely be eating here again before my vacation is up and will look forward to coming here again next year.

We are from Arizona so we know good Mexican food. The food was OUTSTANDING! I had fajitas and these were like nothing I've tasted. My husband had fish and the homemade specialty salsas were so unique. We are here in MB for four days and coming back! Oscar the owner is such a kind man. He and his wife are working hard. If I only we could convince them to open a restaurant in Memphis where we live!

The food is fantastic ...., all authentic and hand made. I loved the carne asada sopas! All of the condiments are delicious. The only thing that could stand some improvement would be the service, extremely slow.

The food was pretty good the service sucked and I ordered cheese dip the last brought it to the table with chips when we got the bill she charged for the chips and dip to me cheese dip means dip so what was I going to do the cheese in she should have called it cheese sauce. She said chips she's not come with the dip and how was I going to eat that.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
